5 CIVITAVECCHIA TRANSFERS Tips, Suggestions, Advice

1. ROME AIRPORT TO CIVITAVECCHIA PORT TRANSFERS

Flying into Italy on the same day of your Cruise Ship departure?

EXPERT TIP : Book your flight arriving at Rome’s Fiumicino Airport (FCO) in the morning. It grants you extra leeway time in case of flight delays, missed connections, or luggage delays.

By booking a flight that arrives midday with just barely enough time to get to the cruise port, you risk running out of time if you experience any delays en route to Italy.

There have been cruisers who missed their cruise due to travel delays on their way to Italy.

2. STAYING IN ROME PRE-CRUISE?

EXPERT TIP: Arrive in Italy the day before your cruise departure from Civitavecchia.  It will give you peace of mind in case of travel or luggage delays. You can book a transfer from Rome to Civitavecchia the next day and begin your cruise relaxed and well-rested.

Many cruisers fly into Italy the morning before their cruise and spend the night in Rome or in Civitavecchia. This allows for stress-free travel in case of unforeseen flight or luggage delays and also affords additional time to enjoy some sightseeing before their cruise the next day.

We offer options to maximize your limited time in Rome and squeeze in as much sightseeing as possible!

For your flight arrival in Rome, you may book our 2 or 4 Hour VIP Transfer or the popular Rome’s highlights from Fiumicino Airport your hotel in Rome.  Upon special request, we will be happy to also offer longer duration tours of Rome depending on your flight arrival time.

Our Rome private tours by car are enjoyable, comfortable, and hassle-free.

By car, you can see more of Rome in less time in the comfort and safety of your private deluxe vehicle and personal English-speaking driver.  You will have time to stop to enjoy various squares, view spectacular monuments, take photos, or enjoy a cappuccino. As our tours are private, you also have the flexibility to enjoy your sightseeing time as you wish.

After a restful evening and a good night’s sleep, the next morning you may enjoy a Pre Cruise Countryside Tour on your way to your Cruise ship.   The most popular pre-cruise countryside tour takes you to Bracciano to visit the splendid medieval Orsini-Odescalchi Castle (Bracciano Castle for short), and a visit with time for lunch in the charming clifftop hamlet of Ceri (formerly a medieval fortress).

Our sister company Stefano Rome Tours also offers the delightful Charming Lakeside Villages Countryside Tour to Bracciano, Anguillara, and Trevignano – the 3 wonderful historical villages situated on the shores of the pristine Lake Bracciano.

After your preferred pre-cruise tour, your personal English-speaking Driver will deliver you (and your luggage) right on the pier next to your Cruise Ship.  There’s no better way to start your voyage than a fun-filled morning of sightseeing in Italy.

3. RELAX BEFORE EMBARKING ON YOUR CRUISE FROM CIVITAVECCHIA

If you are flying into Italy the afternoon or evening before your Cruise, you may book a hotel in the town of Civitavecchia near the cruise port and relax before your voyage.

Your hotel concierge or accommodation host can arrange for a local Civitavecchia Taxi to take you to your ship inside the cruise port for an easy stress-free door-to-door service.

Civitavecchia is a port town, boasting a lovely seaside promenade and the imposing Michelangelo Fortress.  What to see and do in Civitavecchia? With ample cafes, restaurants, shops, pharmacies, and boutiques within walking distance, Civitavecchia is an ideal town for a layover stay close to your cruise ship before you embark on your voyage.

Staying in Civitavecchia before your cruise

Many cruisers are not sure of the best times to schedule their various Rome – Civitavecchia Port Transfers.  Here are some of the most recommended pick-up times for the following types of Port Transfers.

Rome to Civitavecchia Transfer

If you require a nonstop transfer from your hotel in Rome to Civitavecchia Port, recommended pick-up time is 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.  The SAFE arrival time to your ship for most cruise departures is no later than 2:30 PM

If you depart too early from Rome, you may arrive at your ship too soon before your embarkation time and may have to wait on the pier. The Pier in Civitavecchia is not equipped for an enjoyable wait time.

If you depart too late from Rome past 1:00 PM, you risk arriving too late to your ship if you encounter any unforeseen traffic delays.

Civitavecchia to Rome Transfer

For a nonstop transfer from your Cruise Ship in Civitavecchia to Rome hotel, the recommended pick-up time is 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM. This is the time range when most cruisers going to Rome post-cruise disembark.

Cruisers who have early flights tend to be disembarked earlier before 8 AM.  Usually by 9 AM most cruisers are already disembarked from the cruise ship, unless they hold a late disembarkation pass.

Scheduling your pick up from your ship after 9:00 AM may cause you to have to wait on the pier for your Driver to arrive for your scheduled pick-up time if your ship disembarks earlier than anticipated.  As Rome is about 1.5 hours away, it will not be possible for the Driver to hurry up and arrive sooner, and Drivers usually have other morning services making last-minute changes to accommodate earlier than anticipated disembarkation difficult or impossible.

5. FLYING OUT OF ITALY ON THE SAME DAY YOUR CRUISE ENDS AT CIVITAVECCHIA?

Many cruisers are short on time and must catch a flight home on the same day their cruise ends in Civitavecchia.

Here are a few tips for flying out of Italy on the same day your cruise ends in Civitavecchia under normal travel conditions.

To be safe, book a departure flight between 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM. Travel time for transfers from Civitavecchia to FCO Airport is about 1 hour pending local traffic and road conditions.

Booking a very early morning flight could potentially place you at risk of arriving too late to the airport if your ship docks late, or if there are any unforeseen delays in disembarkation.  While cruisers with morning flights can disembark as early as 7 AM for a 10 AM flight, any unforeseen delay with the ship or at the cruise port can place you at risk of arriving late to the airport.

As most cruisers without a late disembarkation pass are disembarked by 9:00 AM if you book a flight later than 1:00 PM you might find yourself with too many hours to wait at the airport where it may not be convenient or suitable to arrive excessively early.
